As a newer web development technology, Ruby on Rails has been the focus of a number of Open Source and Commercial efforts to package up tools to make software development easier. IDEs bring together graphical user interfaces in a combined package of editors, debuggers, source code control, database management, bug management, team collaboration, and other useful utilities with the goal of the sum being more powerful than the individual parts.
